I freaking WON the International Association of Professional Birth Photographers competition!!!!! I found out yesterday morning and I spent the entire day in my head (and cooking & cleaning but that’s another story ?) the two people I told were hubby and Claire - the mum in the photo. I don’t know why but I literally couldn’t find the words to write or share - can you be so amazed at yourself that you go into complete shutdown?! I’ve been entering IAPBP competition since 2014 and it is one of those pinnacle moments for birth photographers when it comes around - the worry about choosing 5 images from the previous year - it’s so hard because you are so emo about all of your births - choosing 5 is like asking a parent to choose a favourite child! To have WON first place with my image titled “Our rainbow baby is finally here” is literally a dream come true. My mind is blown and my heart so full ♥️ the incredible judges chose this image to win AND so did the Members! So not only did this image capture the attention of the judges, the amazing birth photographers also chose it for Members Choice! I am just in WOW - is that a thing? Because I’m there - WOW! Thank you to Claire, Dem, Linda & Aliyah for allowing the world to share in your intimate and special moment. The world loves you! Claire says, “This photo is so powerful to our family, it signifies the beginning and the end. The end of our heartache that is infertility and miscarriage and the beginning of our dreams being answered, Holding our baby in our arms and birthing him into the world in such a beautiful and calming environment. We feel truly blessed that Belle was with us on our journey and was able to capture such a meaningful picture” Oh my heart. How blessed am I?! Continued in the comments xx

“They said I couldn’t do it.” ⠀ ⠀ I shot my 50th birth early yesterday morning, and this triumphant VBAC mama had us all in tears. ? With her first baby, she ended up in a section after pushing for three hours with a diagnosis of failure to descend... and was told by docs that her pelvis/body wasn’t capable of birthing a baby vaginally.⠀ ⠀ So she pursued midwifery care at a local birth center, sought chiropractic care from 13 weeks onward, allowed the Lord to bring together her perfect birth team, and did everything else she knew of to make her dreams of a VBAC possible. But even then, when it came time to push, her fear was palpable. “This is when it all went wrong last time,” she told us through tears.⠀ ⠀ But she looked her fear in the face and pushed through it... and birthed this beautiful 8 pound 2 ounce baby girl with a nuchal hand like the total rock star she is. She almost couldn’t believe she did it even as her baby seemingly sprung out of the water and into her arms... and her repeated cries of “They told me I couldn’t do it, but I did. I’m just soooo happy!” made for truly one of my most memorable births to date with some of my favorite images ever. Couldn’t have picked a more perfect birth to celebrate 50 with. ??❤️ Special thanks to midwife Sarah Foster, assistant midwife Lydia and @tulsabirthcenter - as well as Janell Zimmerman with Sowing Wellness for helping this mama rock her VBAC! So grateful for our Tulsa birth community! ?
